Following the events of Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin, attempts to take over Gotham’s criminal underworld. With the exception of a Bat-Signal in the final frame of the season finale, we’ve never seen Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of the Penguin. In this short film, IMDb attempts to answer: Where the hell was Batman? According to series creator Lauren LeFrank, Batman does not appear in the series. “I understand why people want Batman or think that if Batman is not in a series or a movie, he won’t have the same power. To me, I think it’s different. Matt’s films are created through the lens of Batman, so when you’re up high, you’re looking down on the city. It’s a different perspective. With Oz, you’re on the streets of the city, you’re in the dirt, mud, and grime. He’s looking up, wanting to get to the top.” The DC Studios logo is placed in a rainy Gotham street. An umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo. She appeared in The Graham Norton Show: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024). Absolutely captured the tone and atmosphere. Brutal, dirty and dark, but Farrell manages to capture that glimmer of charm, like Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano. There are similarities to the Sopranos, especially in tone. A lot of dark stuff happens in the first episode, but there are still comedic moments that fit the tone and don’t undermine it. Where do we start with Pharrell? Amazing is the right word. I love watching talented celebrity actors completely commit to such roles, and the makeup/CGI or whatever it is they did to physically transform him into a penguin not only passes the eye test, but looks incredibly realistic. There is always the risk that if the makeup is not good enough or not enough, it can completely distract you. In the case of Penguin, it enhances his performance and the overall quality of the show, because it’s a damn good job. And Farrell, as an actor, immerses himself in the role. I may be a little biased because he’s one of my favorite actors before this show, but I think he’ll get some well-deserved recognition for it. I never jump into new shows because I like to watch all the episodes at once, but I wanted to see how this one actually turned out. It didn’t disappoint, it blew me away. Well done to everyone involved.
